Announcement of the auction ArtSale.info No. 112. Purygin, Nemukhin, Zverev, Titov, Zelenine and others. March 9–15, 2022

Russian Bosch. Leonid Purygin. Or “Lenya Purygin the Genius”, as he later wrote. In Nara, in Naro-Fominsk, in the local palace of culture there was a drawing circle, which became all Purygin's universities. The artist is loved and appreciated as a creator of amazing fairy-tale worlds, where good magic neighbors with hellish images.

Announcement of the auction ArtSale.info No. 109. Neizvestny, Grositsky, Shorin, Zverev, Nesterova, Roginsky and others. February 16–22, 2022

The title of this painting by Ernst Neizvestny refers to the Latin saying “Per aspera ad astra” by the Roman stoic philosopher Seneca. It translates as “through hardships to the stars”, a metaphor for the relentless pursuit of victory in spite of all difficulties. But in Neizvestny's painting, the title should be taken not metaphorically, but literally. It is a painting about space, about the conquest of the unknown, a hymn to human courage.

Announcement of the auction ArtSale.info No. 107. Belenok, Zverev, Nemukhin, Roginsky, Shelkovsky, Sokov, Shablavin, Snegur, Fonvizin, Ostashov and others. February 2–8, 2022

The context is important here. Remember, what is 1979? In the “decaying West”, there is a computer revolution. There is an incredible seething of energies, a passionate explosion. In the U.S., there is a consumption boom. At the same time, in the USSR, the era of stagnation is in full swing. Propaganda on the background of growing scarcity. But at the same time, 1979 was a time of rapid scientific and technological progress and a paradoxical flowering of culture! Such a strange time of disappointments, successes and hopes. And all these fears, doubts and optimism became part of the large-scale work of Petr Belenok — the creator of the unique concept of “panic realism”.

Nemukhin's original super-elephants exist in many designs. There are even exotic pink elephants. I suppose that initially the construction of Suprematist symbols should have been called “SUPRE-elephant”. But in our latitudes, the elephant became Russified and turned into “super”. This program plot without cards was much beloved by collectors. Everyone wanted one of these.

A Footprint in the Sand. The mystery of Boris Sveshnikov's painting

The original title of this amazingly complex painting was among the mysteries deliberately left by the author. Boris Sveshnikov often wrote the title and date on the back. But not this time. As a result, the painting changed its title several times over the 60 years. Someone saw in it a park at dusk, someone a path in the evening woods, someone a trail in the sand. The clue, meanwhile, was in the most prominent place. But in order to see the plot, a drop of magic was needed: the attentive viewer had to be helped at just the right moment by the light that fell correctly.

Seahorse shoes. Examining the drawing by Dmitry Plavinsky

The auction ArtSale.info received the work “Seahorse” by non-conformist Dmitry Plavinsky. For the author of “Manhattan Fish”, “Stingray” and “Moscow Turtle” the theme is common. The outlines of a seahorse were shown schematically, but none of the collectors were alerted to the plot. Only a week after the auction, a comment on Facebook completely reversed the interpretation of the work, adding a dialogue with Rembrandt and Van Gogh.
